Extraordinary Ministers serve the community of Saint John the Evangelist by assisting in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Some Extraordinary Ministers also bring Holy Communion to Catholic patients at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, to local assisted living and continuing care facilities, to hospices, and to sick and home-bound parishioners. The requirements to be an Extraordinary Minister are to be a practicing Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, to be a registered, active parishioner of Saint John Church, to be 16 years or older, and to attend training as an Eucharistic Minister.
